Express Session Featuring SuperB

Original Air Date:

On this week’s episode, I interview one of my favorite poets, the genius SuperB!

We really went deep on this one.  We even took a pause and just soaked in the beauty of where the interview went.

SuperB’s talked about his origin story, creativity, connection, how he almost became a Catholic priest, and on pursuing one's dreams.

I highly recommend you take listen!  Enjoy!

SuperB will be the featured poet for this month’s Live and Online: Expression Session.  Taking place on Sunday, October 15th, the LO:ES is an online writing workshop that culminates a performance by our feature SuperB.

Bravery is Everything With Kendra Reed

Original Air Date: September 30, 2019

Today’s guest is Kendra Reed of the "Kenny Hearts Life" brand. She’s an ambassador for happiness, self-care, and teaching others to "Heart" their life: all of which we talk about. We also talk about movement, blogging, and the courage it takes to break out of being ‘stuck’ (Kendra shares some personal experiences that she has with this).

Two and a half years ago, she started her journey of self discovery and happiness and has never looked back. In that time, she left a non-beneficial long term relationship, moved from her small hometown in Mississippi to Dallas, and began traveling for the first time, freelance writing, and learning to heal old mindsets.

Kendra’s goal is to empower others, especially women of color, to pursue inner peace, step away from toxic mindsets, and live a full and happy life.

What Makes You Come Alive?

“Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” -Howard Thurman

Not only is this one of my favorite quotes but it is also the prompt for this week’s writing workshop episode.

Here’s the backstory:

I was an art major for my first 2 years in college.  It was amazing, and I met a lot of remarkable people.

One of those people - Jordan Bierma - DMed me and asked if I “would be interested in participating in a storytelling project with my high school students.”

He shared that, “I work at a very small rural public school that follows an expeditionary learning model...With covid this year we have not been able to leave school and interact with anyone outside our small community of about 600 people.”

I thought this would be amazing.

Rather than focusing the entire time on myself, I suggested that instead I could host a writing workshop.

This week’s episode is the recording of the creativity and honesty that transpired.

I want to thank Jordan and the brilliant students at Silverton High School for being open to sharing their writing with all of us.

Look - this is a crazy time for all of us.

Getting centered on this question, “what makes you come alive,” is of paramount importance.

I’d love for you to give yourself the gift of going through this workshop.

You will come out the otherside with some newly discovered personal insights.

Be sure to email or DM me your writing!

I’d love to read it!

Give Closure to 2020 & Intentionally Start 2021

2020, right? Wow.  I could probably start every episode writeup this way and get away with it.

Here’s the thing - I bet if we took the time - there is a lot we can get out of reflecting on 2020.

The intention of this week’s episode is to provide you with the time, space, and process to do so.

This episode also acts as a time capsule.

1 year ago I sat down with a group of my friends and we went through a writing workshop to get clear on our intentions for 2020.

Little did we know…

And yet - no matter what surprises and worldwide pandemics the future will hold - getting intentional first offers us a foundation to stand on.

That is why I’m bringing this episode back to life as a replay for you this week.

First and foremost it gives me the opportunity to go through this writing workshop myself and create closure for 2020, while also giving life to 2021.

Secondly, I hope it allows you to do the same.

Even if you don’t have time to sit down and write as you listen - you’ll still get a lot out of going through the writing prompts mentally.

If you don’t take the time now - 2020 is going to be done and dusted before we even know it.

Please - give yourself the gift of reflection by going through this episode.

Do yourself that favor.

Hit play.

My Year of Adventure

Each year I set an intention for what my “year of” will be.  In past years, I’ve manifested My Year of Expression, My Year of Balance, My Year of Courage and most recently, My Year of Grace.

This episode introduces what this year will be - My Year of Adventure!

To introduce the theme, I take a group of my friends through a writing workshop exploring what adventures this next year will bring.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to set your new year’s intentions and goals - let’s do this.

DIY Judaism, Passover, and Love With Andrea Hodos

This week, my guest is the awesome facilitator Andrea Hodos. In Andrea’s own words, we talk about “Jewish things” – what Judaism means to her and how it came to inform her life. We talked about her specialty, which is creating meaning and building empathy by putting things (and people!) in relation to one another, and also about Passover (specifically, what it means to her and her family)!

Andrea Hodos is the director of Moving Torah, a method for using movement, writing, and theater to explore Jewish text and Jewish story. Through her work in Moving Torah, Andrea developed a Jewish/Muslim women's performance project called "Sinai & Sunna: Women Covering, Uncovering and Recovering." She is also the Program Co-Director of NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change. Andrea and her husband, Aryeh Cohen, are among founding members of the Shtibl minyan, a DIY Jewish spiritual community in Los Angeles.
